Hola!
The story behind this session had me feeling all the feels, so of course had to make it my very first photography blog post! Oh, and I included a little discount at the end for ya’ll ;-)
I have to be honest, I didn't become a photographer on purpose. There was never any preexisting burning passion to take photos as my career and it’s a long story but essentially when I found out people wanted to pay me to take pictures, I was like “Sweet, I can quit my 9-5!”
I will say that I did find purpose in commercial photography. It made sense that real estate needed to be photographed in the best light to attract the right buyers, company events needed to be captured to advertise the culture and headshots were necessary because in a virtual world, it helps to put a name to the face. But professional photography for personal use? Not really my jam.
It wasn’t until this particular session that I realized just how important family photography is…
Two friends purchased this family session for another good friend of theirs. She’s someone who “Totally deserves it but would never do it for herself”. Hannah is a stay at home Mom with a loving husband and two adorable little kids, Grace and Oliver. As a Mom myself, I know what it’s like to always be on the other side of the camera and how extremely difficult it is to get your kids to smile even just for that. And let’s not forget the thought of talking your significant other into wearing coordinating khakis and faking a smile for one hour straight. I TOTALLY get it and those are the reasons I avoid family photos myself.
But this session was different. The fact that two of Hannah’s friends cared enough about her to gift her this session without her ever having to ask anyone to go out of their way, spoke volumes to me about the type of person she is and the type of friends they are. Everyone deserves a professional family photo, even the extra nice people who would never inconvenience anyone else to get it.
Let’s be real, the daily grind gets pretty rough and there are so many times that a glance at your screensaver or the frame on your desk is what snaps you back to reality and forces you to remember what, and by what I mean who, really matters. At the end of the day, it’s our families who fill us up and none of us can deny the mushy gushy feelings we get when we see an awesome photo of them by our side.
Because of how inspired I got by this session, I want to extend a discount to anyone who purchases a session FOR a family they love before the year ends, e.g. the perfect Christmas gift :) All you have to do is mention this post when you reach out and I’ll take $50 off your total package!
